The good news is that God has revealed himself to us through His Son Jesus Christ.

“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son”
Hebrews 11:1-2

“No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.”
John 1:18

God’s heart is that we know him now in this life and forever in the life to come. God promises us a membership of a new family through Jesus Christ.

“to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
John 1:12

God promises us a new home. He promises a new heaven and earth free of the sorrows, frustrations and imperfections of the current creation.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old orders of things has passed away”
Revelation 21:4

God’s desire is that we find him and enter into a relationship with him. He is not out to get us, limit us or suppress us but rather to do us immeasurable good. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to reveal himself and to reconcile us to him. God is setting up a new order – a new kingdom. The head of that kingdom is Jesus Christ and we enter into it when we submit to Jesus Christ as our leader. Only then can we receive the good things God has for us. Our natural tendency is to reject God’s rule and choose our own way including our own way of thinking.

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way”
Isaiah 53:6

The result is that we do wrong, hurt other people and often hurt ourselves. We fail to meet even our own standards let alone the standards God has set for the treatment of others and our own behaviour. The root problem is that we do not know Jesus personally as our Lord (that is the leader and authority in our lives). And without Jesus Christ as our Saviour our sins (that is our wrongdoing) cause us to fall short of participation in God’s kingdom.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
Romans 3:23

But if we are willing to recognise our sin and ask God forgiveness for it we can receive a full pardon because of Jesus Christ. All wrong doing requires punishment including our own. The penalty for our sin is eternal separation from God. But the good news is that because of Jesus suffering and death on the cross God is able to account our sins fully punished and paid for if we are willing to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. If we come to God asking forgiveness on this basis we will be forgiven and receive a new life as sons and daughters of God.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9

“to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
John 1:12
